Vice President and Deputy General Counsel
Cole Peterson, J.D., M.H.A., has been vice president and deputy general counsel at Moffitt Cancer Center since 2014. In this role, Peterson provides general legal services and oversees more than 20 team members responsible for contracting and institution compliance functions.
Prior to joining Moffitt as associate general counsel in 2013, Peterson served as general counsel, chief regulatory officer, privacy officer and management representative at United Orthopedic Group (Frisco, Texas), an international 600-employee orthopedic brace manufacturer and multistate service company. During her tenure, she managed all legal aspects related to compliance, contracting and safety functions for 19 legal entities.
Peterson previously served as the vice president of Legal Affairs at CCS Medical Inc. in Clearwater and in-house counsel at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Health System in St. Petersburg. Peterson began her career as an associate in the National Health Law Group at Holland & Knight in St. Petersburg in 1999.
Peterson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Studies from Duke University in 1995, and a juris doctor and master’s degree in Health Administration from Saint Louis University in 1999. She is a member of The Florida Bar, the Bar of the Florida Supreme Court and The Texas Bar, the American Health Lawyers Association, Health Care Compliance Association, Association of Corporate Counsel, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. In 2015, she was honored by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as the Top Corporate Counsel in the health care category.
