What Differentiates Moffitt

Where You Are:

Moffitt Cancer Center is the No. 1 cancer hospital in the Southeast, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2014-15 listing of “Best Hospitals.” Nationally, Moffitt ranked as the No. 16 hospital for cancer, up from No. 19 last year.  The publication also recognized Moffitt as high performing in five specialties: Ear, Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Gynecology, Nephrology and Urology. Moffitt, the third largest cancer center in the country, has been nationally ranked for the past 16 years.

As the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center based in Florida, Moffitt leads the way with more research, more clinical trials and more people treated than any other hospital in the state. For your patients, it means the best chance for beating cancer.

Research Clinical Trials Centers of Excellence
Since Moffitt Cancer Center opened its doors in 1986, physicians, scientists, researchers and staff have collaborated to transform the lives of thousands of people who have been impacted by cancer.
Moffitt is best known for its translational research, forging new discoveries out of the convergence of basic science, clinical trials and patient care. The synergy between researchers and clinicians furthers the efforts in finding cures for cancer by moving discoveries quickly from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside. This collaboration fast-tracks laboratory successes into new treatments. Currently, Moffitt participates in more than 350 clinical trials.

Moffitt Centers of Excellence will continue to lead in personalized cancer care through a unique mix of nationally recognized leadership, research and program collaborations.

Moffitt’s commitment to quality care is unsurpassed. Our Cancer Registry provided an accurate look at patient data and compared to the United States as reported by the National Cancer Database.
Aging and growing population, increasing numbers of cancer survivors, and slower growth in the supply of oncologists will result in a shortage of 2,550 to 4,080 oncologists by 2020.  At that time, the total supply of oncologists is projected to be roughly 12,500.  Due to Florida’s demographics, we will likely be hit harder than other areas of the country. Moffitt trains more students in the field of oncology than all other Florida institutions combined.

Moffitt Cancer Center is committed to foster improved standard of care by providing educational opportunities to physicians and other health care professionals. Moffitt Conferences deliver diverse, evidence-based educational activities for professional groups in Tampa and around the world to advance your knowledge and professional skills for the best patient care.
