M-POWER

Mission

M-POWER works to build and sustain partnerships with the local community to develop and improve methods for reducing cancer disparities.

We accomplish our objectives by:

• Strengthening community collaborations, relationships and partnerships with local groups targeting underserved communities
• Providing health education to empower communities to make positive health choices 

Overview

M-POWER focuses on improving community understanding of the importance of early detection of cancer.

We reach out to individuals, community groups and religious institutions in and around Tampa Bay, providing:

• Innovative Programs  – These programs focus on increasing community capacity to educate those populations most adversely impacted by cancer disparities.
• Lectures and Health Education  – Health educators speak to groups and organizations about cancer prevention and early detection.
• Mobile Mammography – Moffitt’s Mobile Screening Program  provides screenings to the underserved community. Women qualified for these services are identified through established relationships with community partners.
• Health Fairs – Staff attends local health fairs throughout the year to distribute information on cancer prevention.
