Dr. Wells’ research focuses on cancer health disparities and cancer communication. Dr. Wells has significant interest in designing and evaluating community health worker interventions. She recently completed a systematic review evaluating the effect of community health worker interventions on rates of screening mammography. She also is involved in two NCI-funded patient navigation programs designed to reduce health disparities related to breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. Dr. Wells currently leads one of these initiatives which has created and implemented and is evaluating a patient navigator program to promote early detection of cervical abnormalities in Hispanic women living in a rural agricultural community. Dr. Wells also designs and evaluates cancer education materials. Recently, she collaborated with other Moffitt investigators to develop two multimedia interventions to assist patients in making a decision about cancer clinical trials. Additionally, Dr. Wells leads a project to evaluate biobanking educational materials.
