I am in my fifth, and final, year of an NCI grant in which my collaborator and I apply terror management theory, a basic social psychological theory addressing the impact of mortality awareness on behavior, to cancer-relevant activities, e.g., breast self-examination and tanning. Our research activities typically entail manipulating the salience of mortality awareness and examining its impact on cancer-related outcomes in student and community (non-cancer) populations. We have recently submitted a competitive renewal grant.
