Overview


Applications are now being accepted by the Research Training and Education Core (RTEC) of the Center for Equal Health for a post-doctoral fellowship in Cancer Disparity Research to begin in the fall of 2010. This program is limited to individuals who have earned a doctoral degree in a related health sciences discipline and have demonstrated a keen interest in the study of cancer disparity. Cancer disparity is defined by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as “differences in the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden of cancer and related adverse health conditions that exist among specific population groups in the United States.” As such, relevant areas of research focus may include, but are not limited to:

  •     Race and ethnicity
  •     Socioeconomic status
  •     Access to health care
  •     Insurance status
  •     Age
  •     Geography
  •     Cultural beliefs
