Moffitt Cancer Center has a longstanding affiliation with the University of South Florida (USF). The Department of Oncologic Sciences (DOS) provides the academic home for the Moffitt faculty, both physicians and scientists. All Moffitt faculty may have an appointment in the DOS and are part of the core faculty in the College of Medicine. In 2008, Lynn C. Moscinski, M.D., was appointed Chair of the Department of Oncologic Sciences at USF Health. At the Cancer Center, Dr. Moscinski is also appointed as the Chief Academic Officer and the Chair of the Department of Hematopathology & Laboratory Medicine.
Through their appointment to the university and its medical school, Moffitt faculty members have a significant role in supporting cancer-related education programs – both undergraduate and graduate. They are very active in medical student education and numerous USF-sponsored residency and fellowship training programs. The primary appointment for Moffitt faculty is the DOS, but they also may have joint appointments in other departments at USF.
The Cancer Center’s interdisciplinary environment and cutting-edge research facilities provide the opportunity for the Moffitt faculty to collaborate with many departments at USF. These collaborative efforts have established training programs to produce strong, successful candidates for research positions throughout the scientific community and advance the careers of promising scholars who are interested in sharing our mission “to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.” One example is the Cancer Biology Ph.D. program.
