About the art in this issue:

In recent years, intricate Indian tapestries and “miniature” paintings and artwork have become increasingly popular due to their meticulous workmanship and their use of colors derived from natural sources such as minerals, vegetables, indigo, gold and silver. Indian miniature paintings, most of which were created during the 14th to 19th centuries, incorporate various styles and themes; they might portray gentle rounded faces or angular features. Earlier miniatures are identified as Pala and Jain and the later ones as Rajasthani, Mughal, Pahari, and Deccani. The art selections in this issue are a combination of the different schools of Indian miniatures and have been provided courtesy of Brigadier (Dr.) R. S. Grewal, VSM (Retired).
