Physical Therapy - Inpatient

Carlito Cua, PT
Carlito earned his bachelor of science in Physical Therapy from Emilio Aguinaldo College in the Philippines. He worked in various rehabilitation settings including skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics and acute care hospitals (which he finds the most rewarding). Before joining Moffitt Cancer Center in 1994, he worked for a contracting company where he had the opportunity to work in various rehabilitation facilities around the bay area. At Moffitt, Carlito primarily works with the GI program.
Emily Folsom, PT, DPT
Emily is a new edition to the Moffitt Rehab team as of 2011. She received her doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in the winter of 2010. Emily is the primary physical therapist for the Bone Marrow Transplant units and continues to learn and grow in her new position. Professional interests include increasing functional outcomes in the oncology population, as well as a continued interest in patients with neurological disorders, which began in PT school. Emily is very excited to be a part of the team and increase her rehab knowledge in the area of oncology.
Michelove “Mike” Garcia, PT
Mike completed his bachelor of science degree in Physical Therapy at Emilio Aguinaldo College in Manila, Philippines. Initial interests were industrial rehabilitation and in-patient rehabilitation in Fayetteville, Ark. While in Arkansas, Mike developed an interest in hospital-based practice and orthopedics. He moved to Florida to pursue rehab management for skilled nursing facilities. He started at Moffitt Cancer Center in 2007, and his primary interests are Post-Thoracic Surgery and Bone Marrow Transplant.
Christine “Christy” Hennelly, LPT
Christy graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1987 with her bachelor of science in Physical Therapy. She has worked in many different settings over the years in her career as a physical therapist, including acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehab hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home healthcare, and the school systems in Tampa and Philadelphia before joining Moffitt.
Ron Jennings, MSPT
Ron worked at Moffitt in a research lab while attending the University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy, from which he graduated with a master’s degree in 2001. He has been invited to lecture about cancer at the school several times. His experience includes the outpatient, home care, and hospital settings. Ron has been a part of the Moffitt team since 2007.
Raquel Marquez, PT, DPT

Raquel earned her master’s degree in Physical Therapy at Florida International University and went on to complete a doctorate in Physical Therapy at A.T. Still University. She has worked at Moffitt Cancer Center since 2007, predominantly with the Head and Neck Cancer population. She is an APTA member and Credentialed Clinical Instructor.
Teresa “Terri” Zizack, MSPT
Terri originally graduated from Morehead State University with her bachelor of arts degree in 1981. She decided after many years of teaching to return to school to pursue a career in physical therapy. She graduated from the University of South Florida in 2001 with her master’s in Physical Therapy. She is currently a certified yoga therapist as well as an aqua therapist. Her specialty at Moffitt is working with Neuro-Oncology patients.

 

Physical Therapy - Outpatient

Cecilia DeBrigard PT
Cecilia graduated from University El Rosarion (Colombia, South America) with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy in 1981. She has been practicing in the United States since 1984 in various physical therapy settings, including outpatient rehab for orthopedic and neurology patients, and inpatient rehab. Cecilia is fluent in both Spanish and English. Cecilia joined the staff at Moffitt Cancer Center in July 2006. She is currently a senior physical therapist with the rehab services specializing in lymphedema management. She is a certified lymphedema therapist and lymphedema instructor through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
Beth Demarse PT, DPT
A native of Tampa, Beth has been working for Moffitt Cancer Center as a physical therapist in both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation since 2007. In 2000, she graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts-Dance and Theater Production. The same year she became a certified Pilates instructor through the Physical Mind Institute and taught ballet and Pilates for seven years. In 2006, Beth graduated with a master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University and graduated from the University of St. Augustine in 2012 with a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy-Manual Therapy.
Aubrene Fiore PT, DPT, CLT-LANA, CWS
Aubrene Fiore is a graduate of Rosalind Franklin University, The Chicago Medical School, where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2003. Upon graduation, she was the recipient of the Clinical Education Award. Aubrene is a certified lymphedema therapist, completing her training and certification through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies. She is a certified wound care specialist through the American Academy of Wound Management. Aubrene is a certified advanced clinical instructor through the APTA. She provides clinical instruction/mentoring to physical therapy students and is a guest lecturer/lab assistant at Rosalind Franklin University and Northwestern University physical therapy programs.
Rebecca “Bekki” Reid, PT
Rebecca received her bachelor of science in physical therapy from California State University, Long Beach in 1985. She has worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, pediatrics, and long-term care. She moved to Tampa in 1996. Since 2002, she has worked as a certified lymphedema therapist in Moffitt Rehab’s outpatient department. Currently, she is enrolled in the online transitional Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program through the College of St. Scholastica in Minnesota.


Occupational Therapy

Traci Boyle, MS, OTR/L
Traci graduated from the University of Florida with her bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2007 and received her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy at Indiana University in 2010. She is the newest member of the OT team and began working at Moffitt in June 2010. She completed an eight-week internship at Moffitt in 2009 and was hired after graduation. Traci is originally from Tampa and is very happy that her career at Moffitt brought her back home. She is grateful for the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of patients by assisting them with regaining their independence.
Heather Dougherty, MS, OTR/L
Heather graduated from the University f Florida with her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy in 2008. Her last internship was at Moffitt where she worked under very encouraging and enlightening clinical instructors who taught her compassion and quality treatment. She has been working at Moffitt Cancer Center since 2009 and has recently become a senior therapist.
Miriam Finley, MS, OTR/L
Miriam graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in Texas. In 2001, she graduated with her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Midwestern University in Chicago. Miriam has previously worked in rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and has also worked in a private pediatric practice. Miriam joined the Rehab Services team in August 2007 and was promoted to PT/OT Supervisor in December 2010. Miriam loves being a part of Moffitt’s mission and is blessed everyday to be able to be a part of her patient’s lives.
Lisa Jenkins, MS, OTR/L
Lisa completed her bachelor of science degree in Occupational Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. She is originally from West Virginia but has worked primarily in Florida (Jacksonville and Fort Myers) since earning her degree. She is a PRN OT so you will find her throughout the hospital but mainly on 5 south working with the breast surgery patients.
Stephanie Wright, MOT, OTR/L 
Stephanie is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2005, and master’s degree in Occupational Therapy in 2006. Prior to joining Moffitt’s Rehab team in 2010, she worked in pediatrics and inpatient rehabilitation settings specializing in neurological rehabilitation. She currently works at Moffitt in outpatient and inpatient settings. Stephanie was born and raised in Tampa and Land O’Lakes and enjoys working to improve the lives and independence of patients at Moffitt.


Speech Therapy

Bridgette Alexandrou M.S., CCC-SLP
Bridgette earned a bachelor of science in Biology from the University of Central Florida and a master of science in Microbiology from the University of South Florida. She was previously employed as a senior bioscientist at the University of South Florida, where she studied mechanisms of wound healing in the cornea. Bridgette then undertook post-baccalaureate work in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and earned a master of science in Speech-Language Pathology from the USF. During her graduate training, Bridgette completed clinical externships at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and Tampa General Hospital. She completed her clinical fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center. Bridgette has received specialized training related to videostroboscopic laryngeal imaging as well as voice restoration following total laryngectomy.
Kelly Hood, M.S., CCC-SLP
Kelly received her undergraduate training at Florida State University and the University of Florida, graduating with honors. Subsequently, she earned a master of science in Speech Pathology from the University of South Florida. Kelly is currently the Lead Speech Pathologist at Moffitt Cancer Center. Prior to this, she worked with the Head and Neck Team at Shands Hospital Jacksonville as their primary Speech Pathologist. Kelly is a Speech Pathologist who specializes in evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders related to cancer diagnoses and treatment. In addition, she is proficient in evaluation / treatment of cancer and non-cancer related voice disorders including endoscopy and laryngectomy voice restoration. Kelly has been an active participant in conducting dysphagia research. She regularly provides supervision and training for graduate students and clinical fellows in speech pathology. She has organized and presented at continuing education offerings for practicing clinicians in the areas of laryngectomy voice restoration and swallowing.
Erin T. Rowe, M.S., CCC-SLP
Erin received her bachelor of science from the University of Florida, graduating summa cum laude, and received her master of science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Florida. Her clinical training included rotations at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and the Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Esophageal and Swallowing Disorders. Erin has received specialized training in the areas of swallowing restoration in the Head and Neck Cancer population and vocal rehabilitation after total laryngectomy including tracheoesophageal prosthesis (TEP) voice restoration. Her research interests and publications are in the area of evidence-based practices in the clinical decision-making process for treating communication disorders.


Other Staff

Manager: Christine Alvero, PT, DPT, ATC
Christine received her bachelor of science in Wellness Leadership from the University of South Florida in 2000. She continued on to complete her master’s degree in Physical Therapy, also from USF in 2002. She began working at Moffitt Cancer Center upon graduation and continued her education to complete her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. She currently serves as the manager of the Rehab department and also provides care to the Sarcoma program.
Support Staff: Wendy Dorey MA
Wendy joined the U.S. Air Force in 1990 and received her medical training. Upon graduation she worked in various positions within a Level 1 Trauma Center in San Antonio, Texas, including emergency/trauma care, a post-surgical unit, and clinical work. Wendy was then transferred to a unit in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she worked in the O.R. and outpatient clinics. At the end of her enlistment she moved to Michigan and worked for a large cardiology practice, working with post-surgical cardio-thoracic patients for eight years. Wendy joined Moffitt in 2010 working in Rehabilitation Services.


Physical Therapy Assistants

Amanda Leonardi, PTA
Amanda graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor of science in Exercises Science in August 2006. She then moved to St. Petersburg College to further her education, receiving her license as a Physical Therapist Assistant in May 2008. After graduation, Amanda worked in an outpatient facility in Seminole, Fla., with a focus on orthopedic and geriatric patients. In September 2009, Amanda joined Moffitt Cancer Center, working with patients primarily in Bone Marrow Transplant and Hematology, but she also serves as an assistant to all programs serviced by Physical Therapy.
Melissa Penhollow, PTA
After working for 15 years in graphic design, Melissa decided to take a new path. She graduated from St. Petersburg College in 2009 with an associate of science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Melissa joined Moffitt Cancer Center in September 2009 and primarily works in the Bone Marrow Transplant floors (3 West, 4 West); however, she can also be seen throughout the other hospital units as well as outpatient.
Jorge Villanueva, PTA
Jorge began his career at Moffitt Cancer Center as a rehab aide. After three years, Jorge decided to take the next step in physical therapy. He finished the Physical Therapist Assistant associate program at South University in Tampa in 2011. He was re-hired in September 2011 as a PTA and is happy to continue to work in the facility that first introduced him to physical therapy.
