H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute was established and licensed in 1986 as an independent, nonprofit hospital located next to and affiliated with the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Moffitt obtained National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center status in 1997 and NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center status in March 2001.
The Department of Pharmacy has established teaching affiliations with the University of Florida, Nova Southeastern University, Florida A&M University and several other out-of-state Colleges of Pharmacy.
As an oncology health care facility, Moffitt has achieved exemplary reviews by all regulatory agencies, including the Joint Commission of American Hospital Organizations (JCAHO), the Florida Department of Pharmacy Regulation (DPR) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Moffitt has research affiliations with the following national collaborative groups: National Cancer Institute (NCI), Southwest Cooperative Oncology Group (SWOG), Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG). The Florida Cancer Pain Initiative (FCPI) has been strongly supported by Moffitt, the Department of Pharmacy and the Moffitt Pain Management Team.
