Dr. Gilbert received his MD degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons. In 2004, he completed a Residency in the Department of Urology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident from 2004-2005. He completed the following Fellowships at the University of Michigan Health Systems: Health Services Research Fellow (7/2005-6/2008) and Urologic Oncology Fellow (7/2006-6/2008). Dr. Gilbert was most recently employed at the University of Florida College of Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology and Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Policy Research. Dr. Gilbert also served as the Medical Director, Multidisciplinary Urologic Oncology Program.
Dr. Gilbert’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical and multidisciplinary management of urologic cancers, including, bladder, kidney, prostate and testis cancers. He has particular interest and expertise in bladder and testis cancer, and offers open, laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures, nerve and organ-sparing approaches, and complex salvage and reconstructive surgeries. His research interests are in Health Services and Outcomes Research among patients with urologic malignancies. His previous work has focused on health scale development, integration of quality of life assessment into clinical practice settings, and evaluation of variation and quality of cancer care.
