TAMPA, Fla. –Moffitt Cancer Center announced the hire of two new staff members; Kerry Thomas, M.D. and Sowmya Nanjappa, M.D.. Thomas will take on the role of assistant member in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology. Nanjappa was named an assistant member in the Department of Internal Medicine, Internal and Hospital Medicine Program.
Thomas obtained her degree and completed a diagnostic radiology residency from the University of South Florida Morsani School of Medicine. Most recently, she completed a body imaging fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center. Thomas’ clinical interests include abnormal and pelvic MRI and ultrasound, particularly liver imaging. Her research interests include hepatobilitary tumors and inflammatory bowel disease. Thomas will work under Robert Gatenby, M.D., who chairs the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology.
Nanjappa received her degree from the Bangalor Medical College in India. She completed an internal medicine residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in New York. She recently completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Nanjappa’s clinical interests are in the treatment of infectious diseases and antibiotic stewardship. Her research focus is in infectious diseases in oncology patients. Nanjappa will work under Bjorn Homstrom, M.D., the interim chair of the Department of Internal Medicine.
