Moffitt Cancer Center Recognized by Computerworld as a 2013 Computerworld Honors Laureate

Apr 17, 2013

TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center has been named a 2013 IDG’s Computerworld Honors Laureate. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

“Technology continues to play a pivotal role in transforming how business and society functions. For the past 25 years the Computerworld Honors Program has had the privilege of celebrating innovative IT achievements,” said John Amato, vice president & publisher, Computerworld. “Computerworld is honored to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the 2013 class of Laureates and to share their work. These projects demonstrate how IT can advance organizations' ability to compete, innovate, communicate and prosper.”

Moffitt was selected from more than 700 nominations to become one of 268 Laureates from 29 countries. The Honors program, founded in 1988, recognizes organizations and individuals who have used information technology to promote and advance public welfare, benefit society and business, and change the world for the better.

“For the second year in a row Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized by technology leaders around the globe for our use of telemedicine and video technologies for the benefit of its patients and their families,” said David Stringfellow, video architect and engineer at Moffitt Cancer Center. “Moffitt has long considered itself as a model for patient centered care; utilizing new and existing technologies in alternative ways to drive better outcomes.  This recognition is an affirmation from the technology industry that the work that we are doing is ground breaking and innovative and complementary to our mission in contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer.”

The Computerworld Honors Program awards will be presented at the Gala Evening and Awards Ceremony on June 3, 2013 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
