Floridians now have the opportunity to drive cancer research at Moffitt by purchasing a new specialty license plate.

Q. How much does the Moffitt plate cost?

A. The plate costs just $25 plus applicable county fees per year in addition to the regular issue Florida license plate fee when you renew your tag.

Q. Can I buy the new Moffitt plate before I’m required to renew?

A. Yes, you can. There is a “new metal” plate fee of $25 in addition to the registration and specialty plate fees.

A. The purpose of specialty license plates is to raise funds for cancer research. Florida Statutes require an annual fee for the use of special design plates.

Q. What is my normal registration cost?

A. The base cost for registering a personal vehicle in Florida depends on vehicle type and weight, or trailer weights (call your tax collector to confirm the fee).

Q. Can I personalize my tag?

A. Yes, with up to 5 characters. You must check with your county license plate agency to reserve a unique set of characters.

Q. Can I purchase over the phone?

A. Some tax collector’s offices allow you to purchase vouchers over the phone. Call your local office to see if this option is available in your area.

Q. Can I purchase online?

A. At this time, the state does not allow online purchases to be made.

Q. Can I purchase a license plate as a gift?

A. The Department has authorized the issuance of specialty license plate gift certificates. This new program allows anyone to purchase a specialty license plate as a gift for a motor vehicle registrant. Once a gift certificate is purchased, the money is given to the sponsoring plate entity as specified by Florida Statutes. Therefore, refunds are not available for gift certificates.
