Our mission is to provide accurate, timely and cost-effective pathology services to patients and physicians practicing at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and its affiliates and to provide consultative services. We maintain the highest levels of quality to ensure the most accurate diagnostic services for both the patient and the attending physician. The Divisions of Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology and Clinical Laboratory Medicine are committed to assisting the Cancer Center in its mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Moffitt Cancer Center is a complete teaching and clinical facility located at the main campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa. Pathology is organized into three distinct divisions: Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology and Laboratory Medicine. The consultation service offers comprehensive consultation in all anatomic pathology, cytology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics. Our laboratories are state-of-the-art facilities that use the most up-to-date techniques and equipment, thereby guaranteeing the highest degree of service excellence. It is staffed by more than 30 M.D.s and Ph.D. scientists, all full-time board-certified with expertise in a wide range of pathology subspecialties. A staff of highly trained medical technologists is supported by clerical personnel, assuring rapid turnaround times and efficient reporting of test results.
The Department of Pathology is accredited by the College of American Pathologists – a mark of excellence in the practice of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The quality of work is continuously monitored by internal and external quality control programs, by participation in proficiency testing and by participation in hospital-wide quality improvement programs. Our goal is to offer outstanding consultation services with rapid turnaround time to our referring pathologists, physicians and patients in order to expedite the diagnosing and treatment of our patients. Through extensive investigation and research, our main focus is to contribute to the prevention and treatment of cancer in order to make a life-saving difference in our patients and their families' lives.
