Cancer is a highly personal disease, both in the way we treat it and the way our patients battle it. That’s why every room at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida is private. Each room in the hospital offers a quiet, restful, healing place where friends and family can talk openly and candidly, and support their loved one through victories and challenges during treatment.
Moffitt’s Tampa cancer center facility itself is a controlled environment that prevents outside organisms from entering the building. That’s why we keep all windows closed at all times.
Your nurse will show you how to operate your bed, call light and intercom system, and show you the emergency cord located in your private bath should you need help while in the bathroom. Each hospital room also has a closet for your belongings. Please put small items like eyeglasses, hearing aids or dentures in your nightstand when not in use. Dentures, in particular, can be easily thrown away if wrapped in tissue and left near your meal tray. Ask your nurse for a denture cup should you need one.
The Benjamin Mendick Hope Lodge on the Moffitt campus is owned and operated by the American Cancer Society and is free to patients who are actively receiving treatment. These patient guests must be referred by a Moffitt social worker, and rooms are assigned based on availability. Social workers are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the first floor of the main hospital. Call 813-745-8407 for more information.
Also, our Lodging department has options for patients who require an extended stay that’s close to Moffitt during treatment. These include a partnership with the Residence Inn and the TownePlace Suites for those who need to stay longer than 14 days. Rates are discounted, and both hotels follow the hygiene standards and infection control policies of Moffitt to ensure the safety of our patients with compromised immunities. Both hotels are conveniently located within four miles of the main Moffitt campus in north Tampa, Florida. We also have access to corporate housing via ATB that can provide fully furnished apartments within five miles of the hospital. Shorter stays can be accommodated at the Courtyard Hotel as well.
