Clinics for People at Risk

Moffitt Cancer Center Screening and Prevention specializes in identifying and helping patients who have a higher-than-average risk for cancer. We’ve developed cancer prevention clinics that are offered several days each month where patients can be evaluated by expert multidisciplinary teams and receive personalize strategies to lower risk.

Clinics currently available include:

  • Breast Evaluation Clinic
Provides evaluation for patients who are having breast symptoms or who had an abnormal imaging study at another facility. Here they will meet with our clinical team of breast specialists and if additional imaging is needed, it will be performed the same day by our board-certified radiologists who are all fellowship trained in breast imaging. In most cases, if biopsy is recommended, the time from initial visit to final pathology results is less than 5 days.
  • Breast Surveillance Clinic
Provides clinical monitoring for women at increased risk of breast cancer because of certain medical conditions. For example, women with lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), atypical hyperplasia (abnormal cells found in a biopsy) and women more than five years from breast cancer treatment are seen in this clinic.
  • Prostate Evaluation Clinic
Provides follow-up care to men with an abnormal prostate screening (PSA test or digital rectal exam) and to men at increased risk due to family history or pre-malignant cells on biopsy. Additional lab work and prostate biopsies may be conducted.
  • Skin Surveillance Clinic
Provides a head-to-toe skin evaluation. If skin biopsy is needed, it can be carried out immediately. Pre-cancerous conditions are also treated in this clinic. Close surveillance for patients at increased risk for melanoma is also provided.
  • Cancer Survivorship Clinic
Provides clinical monitoring for patients who have a history of cancer and have completed active treatment. The survivorship clinic is focused on monitoring for any disease recurrence or second cancers, and refocusing patients on wellness.
  • Genetics Risk Assessment Service Clinic
Provides confidential genetic counseling and assessment to patients with a family history of cancer, to help them understand if they may be at risk of developing a hereditary form of the disease. Genetic testing is available to eligible patients.
  • FreshBreak™ Smoking Cessation Clinic
Provides help to people who wish to quit smoking. Individuals may be treated with a combination of counseling, pharmacological aids (such as nicotine replacement products) and other innovative approaches.
