The pancreas is a gland that produces secretions to help digest food. It also produces the hormones insulin and glucagon that help control blood sugar and help the body store and use energy from food. Pancreatic cancer is a disease in which malignant cells form in the tissues of the pancreas.


The early symptoms of pancreatic cancer can be difficult to identify as they are often nonspecific. Symptoms can include the following:

  •  Jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes
  • Pain in the upper or middle abdomen and back
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
