Each patient who enters our clinic is offered a patient-specific treatment plan based on his or her diagnosis and unique clinical characteristics, which often includes the opportunity to participate in a multiple myeloma clinical trial.
The treatment of these diseases encompasses a large array of therapies, including traditional chemotherapy and novel biologic therapies. Both inpatient and outpatient treatments are available. A coordinated team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, and social workers provide educational information to patients and families as well as a smooth transition between the inpatient and outpatient setting. For patients who travel from a distance, therapeutic decisions are made in discussion and cooperation with the patients' local physicians, who maintain active involvement with their patients between visits to our center.
Because bone marrow transplantation is a therapeutic option for many patients with multiple myeloma, our faculty and staff maintain close ties with the Blood & Marrow Transplant Department. Many Myeloma team members have appointments within the Blood & Marrow Transplant Department.
