The Myeloma Program within Moffitt Cancer Center’s Malignant Hematology Department specializes in the evaluation, treatment and comprehensive care of patients with plasma cell disorders. They include multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytomas, primary systemic amyloidosis, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance.

Our multidisciplinary Myeloma Team features specialists including medical oncologists, bone marrow transplant physicians, hematopathologists, radiation oncologists, and other physicians who specialize in infectious diseases, orthopedics and neurosurgery.

BMT Clinic in Puerto Rico
On June 24, 2011, Moffitt opened a Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Evaluation and Follow-Up Clinic at the Metro Medical Center in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Dr. Melissa Alsina, head of Moffitt's Multiple Myeloma Program and associate member in the Department of Blood and Marrow Transplant, is a native Puerto Rican who travels to the island once a month. Dr. Alsina sees patients who have been referred by a physician as candidates for a blood and marrow transplant.

There are nearly 800 adults diagnosed in Puerto Rico with blood related cancers like lymphoma, leukemia and multiple myeloma each year.
