Affiliate Hospitals
H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is the only Florida-based cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Moffitt has a legislative mandate to serve as a statewide research institute and to serve a statewide function to provide for the health and well being of the citizens of Florida. The Cancer Center’s sole mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
The Moffitt Affiliate Network was established in 1999 to further enhance the Cancer Center’s abilities to serve Florida communities by providing tertiary care, clinical trials, medical education, and community education and screening. Today, the affiliate network consists of 15 Florida hospitals, one Georgia hospital and more than 400 community oncologists.
All Children’s Hospital, St. Petersburg
All Children’s Hospital (ACH) and Moffitt Cancer Center signed a formal affiliation agreement in October 2004 designating All Children’s as Moffitt’s only pediatric affiliate. Physicians and scientists at the two facilities work together to offer childhood cancer patients the latest in treatment, clinical trials and research, including more than 60 Children’s Oncology Group (COG) clinical trials. ACH and Moffitt are conducting a research study for treatment of metastatic Ewing’s sarcoma that incorporates a anti-tumor vaccine being created from a patient’s own tumor cells. All Children’s cancer program has a dedicated inpatient hematology-oncology wing with a four-bed blood and marrow transplant unit, a team of six pediatric hematologist-oncologists, certified hematology-oncology nurses, and a COG-certified cytogenetics laboratory. Outpatient care is provided at All Children’s and several regional outpatient centers.
Baptist Hospital, Pensacola
In October 2005, Moffitt announced an affiliation with Baptist Health Care in Pensacola. Baptist Hospital is a not-for-profit corporation providing health care services in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. As the first facility in Northwest Florida to be designated by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program, Baptist Hospital delivers highly advanced cancer care in a patient-oriented environment. The multidisciplinary team of physicians at Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Program is equipped with the most advanced technology required for optimum cancer care. In addition, Baptist offers extensive education, support and rehabilitative programs to meet the patient’s needs before, during and after treatment. The partnership between Moffitt and Baptist Health Care provides patients greater access to promising new treatments and specialized expertise and allows physicians to benefit from Moffitt’s educational conferences, quarterly visits and clinical research.
Bethesda Healthcare System, Boynton Beach
Bethesda Healthcare System (BHS) is the parent not-for-profit corporation of the 362-bed Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach. In October 2002, Moffitt signed an affiliation agreement with BHS “to enhance cancer-related scientific, clinical, research and treatment activities.” The affiliation was announced to the public via a press conference featuring Moffitt Cancer Center’s founder, H. Lee Moffitt, and Robert B. Hill, CEO of BHS, as well as other prominent leaders of each institution. Bethesda Memorial is nearing completion of a $60-million expansion and is poised to spend as much as $80 million on another new facility to serve the area’s burgeoning elderly population. The ongoing focus of the affiliation is to facilitate access to tertiary cancer care and to participate in Radiation Therapy Oncology Group trials.
Central Florida Health Alliance, Leesburg
Located in beautiful Lake County, Florida, just 40 miles northwest of Orlando, Central Florida Health Alliance (AKA Leesburg Regional Medical Center) announced an affiliation with Moffitt on Sept. 1, 2003, that gives physicians and patients throughout Lake, Sumter and South Marion counties expanded resources for cancer treatment and research, and an exciting new dynamic in comprehensive cancer care. This affiliation enhances the quality of cancer care for Florida residents by creating a seamless transition between the community and academic health settings. Patients continue to receive the finest possible community cancer care, close to home, while having access to Moffitt’s internationally renowned physicians and scientists for unusual or complex cases. Leesburg Regional and collaborating physician practices (Lake Heart & Cancer Center and Central Florida Hematology Oncology) are credentialed for research participation.
Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart
In 1998, Martin Memorial Health System began the search for an academic partner to support its effort to build a high quality cancer center in Stuart, FL. The institution wanted to affiliate with a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center that offered a wide range of cancer resources. For these reasons, it quickly selected Moffitt Cancer Center to help streamline the continuum of care for cancer patients who reside along the Treasure Coast of Florida. Martin Memorial became Moffitt’s first hospital affiliate in April 1999. Moffitt faculty members regularly travel to Stuart to conduct medical seminars with physicians from Martin Memorial. There also has been an active exchange of information among pharmacists, nurses, dieticians and research coordinators. As an American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer-approved cancer center, Martin Memorial continues to prioritize research by its participation in national cooperative clinical trials.
Morton Plant Mease Health Care, Clearwater
Morton Plant Mease Health Care was established as a joint venture in September 2000 to serve patients in Pinellas and Pasco counties. The primary goals of the affiliation are to improve access to care, streamline the continuum of care, improve quality outcomes, and expand research opportunities. Fifty oncologists from Pinellas and Pasco counties actively participate as Moffitt Affiliate Members. Consequently, the collegial relationships among Moffitt faculty and Morton Plant Mease affiliates have grown and sharing of patients and information continues to increase. This collaboration also has resulted in an increase in the number of patients participating in clinical trials at Morton Plant Mease, which allows Moffitt investigators to answer important clinical questions much more rapidly.
North Broward Hospital District, Fort Lauderdale

North Broward Medical Center
In May 2003, Moffitt announced an affiliation with two hospitals in the North Broward Hospital District. This includes the 744-bed Broward General Medical Center, which is Broward County's oldest, largest and most complete referral medical center, as well as the 409-bed North Broward Medical Center. The North Broward Hospital District is an American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer-approved cancer center. Cancer care services include prevention, state-of-the-art detection, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, supported by multiple programs and coordinated by a specially trained multi-disciplinary team. This relationship advances Moffitt’s reach into south Florida, further expanding both the geographic boundaries and the diversification of the affiliate network.
Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala
In January 2005, Moffitt Cancer Center signed an affiliation agreement with Ocala Regional Medical Center. Ocala Regional is a 200-bed acute care center serving northern Marion County. The Cancer Center at Ocala Regional Medical Center is the only approved cancer program in Marion County.
Parrish Medical Center, Titusville
Moffitt Cancer Center signed an affiliate contract with Parrish Medical Center (PMC) in January 2001 with the goal of enhancing community cancer care along the Space Coast of Florida. Parrish Medical Center is a public hospital that serves 75,000 people in North Brevard County, including Port St. John and the Space Coast. In October 2002, PMC opened its new $80-million hospital building. In June 2003, oncologists from Parrish and Moffitt Cancer Center began a monthly series of live case conference reviews via videoconference. In addition to case conferences, Parrish sponsors quarterly physician education sessions at PMC featuring faculty members from Moffitt. Parrish Medical Center and Space Coast Medical Associates, a neighboring community oncology practice, are both certified to conduct Moffitt clinical trials and both participate in national cooperative clinical trials.
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System , Sarasota
Moffitt entered into an affiliate agreement with Sarasota Memorial Health Care System in August 2001. The purpose of the affiliate relationship is “to provide an exceptional continuum of cancer care from early detection through state-of-the-art treatment and rapid access to clinical trials for Sarasota residents.” Through the affiliation, Moffitt Cancer Center has conducted regular medical and nursing education. Each year, Moffitt Cancer Center and Sarasota Memorial collaborate on fundraising events that benefit women’s cancer research. Events have included the Saks Key To The Cure and the annual WEDU Women’s Health event.
St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System , Savannah, Ga.
Through its affiliation with Moffitt Cancer Center, St. Joseph’s/Candler physicians and patients benefit from high-level scientific, clinical, research and treatment resources.
St. Joseph’s Hospitals, Tampa
St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital of Tampa are committed to specialized cancer care for patients of all ages. Recognized for its positive survival rates, St. Joseph’s Cancer Institute provides advanced technology and care focused on helping this community’s battle against cancer. Services include a 30-bed inpatient unit, ambulatory infusion center, Fred. J. Woods Radiation Therapy Center, specialized Pediatric Oncology program, supportive care through LifePath Hospice, St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care program, patient support groups, community education and screenings, Cancer HelpLine and research studies in chemotherapy. The affiliation with Moffitt Cancer Center enhances the dedication St. Joseph’s Hospital has to serve the needs of the Tampa Bay Area. The affiliation reinforces the value of delivering cancer care in a highly regarded hospital while tapping the expertise and resources of academic researchers to assist in the treatment of rare and complicated cancers.
Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee
Tallahassee Memorial Hospital has been affiliated with Moffitt Cancer Center since January 2005. The affiliation with Moffitt further enhances Tallahassee Memorial’s mission to provide comprehensive cancer care to residents of Florida’s Big Bend region. Patients can continue to receive care from Tallahassee Memorial while having access to Moffitt for a broader range of clinical trials, specialized treatments and advanced research and technology. The affiliation also offers opportunities for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital physicians to participate more easily in continuing professional education and clinical collaboration with Moffitt. Tallahassee Memorial ’s cancer program was accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer in 1951, making it Florida’s longest continuously accredited comprehensive community hospital cancer program (CCHCP) and the only accredited CCHCP in the Big Bend Region. TMH recently accomplished an even higher distinction of “accreditation with commendation,” collecting six commendations out of a possible nine with no deficiencies in any of the accrediting standards.
Watson Clinic/Center for Cancer Care & Research, Lakeland
In June 2001, Moffitt signed an affiliate agreement with Watson Clinic in Polk County “to enhance the image of Watson Clinic as a provider of high quality cancer services in Polk County.” In February 2003, Watson Clinic, LLP, and the Clark & Daughtery Medical Group, P.A., celebrated the grand opening of the 38,000-square-foot Center for Cancer Care & Research, as a joint venture between the two groups. The Center for Cancer Care & Research has opened several Moffitt sponsored clinical trials and is dedicated to providing high quality cancer care to Polk county residents.
