Other Nursing Roles

Advanced Practice Nurses: Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists

Nurse Practitioners have many roles in the care of our patients. Their advanced education and clinical practice expertise yields value to our nursing staff and to patients and families. They practice autonomously to treat symptoms and side effects, and also work with physicians to diagnose and development treatment plans. Nurse Practitioners emphasize health promotion and disease prevention as well as treatment of diseases. They obtain health histories, perform physical exams, perform certain procedures, prescribe medications and treatments, orders and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests. The also provide counseling, education and referrals to other physicians and health care providers as necessary.

Clinical Nurse Specialists

Our Clinical Nurse Specialists are experts in specific specialties such as Medical and/or Surgical Oncology, Critical Care, Perioperative Services and Psychiatric Services. Clinical Nurse Specialists use their clinical expertise to improve care for patients and families through their influence on nursing practice and the organization at large. Specific goals are to promote quality patient care through expert practice, staff development, consultation, research and administration. Our master's-prepared Clinical Nurse Specialists hold advanced certifications and are valued members of our Nursing Leadership team.
